Information for our Simon Scholars Community

As Orange and San Diego County policies allow, the Simon Scholars Program will be working closely with our school partners to determine the best strategies and timeline for our high school program to return to campuses.  As a result of being identified on the California Department of Public Health’s County Monitoring List, we have made the decision to operate all of our programs remotely for the remainder of 2020 to ensure the safety of our scholars, school partners and staff.

Offices

Our offices in Newport and San Marcos will remain closed to staff and the public for the remainder of 2020.

Announcements

Announcement of our incoming class of 2022 will be facilitated electronically no later than Friday, August 7, 2020.  Please contact our offices by phone or via email if you are still awaiting notification.

Events

All Simon Scholars events, including college tours will be postponed until further notice.  We are working diligently to identify alternative options that achieve the same programmatic goals.

Academic Eligibility
  • High School – Due to the ongoing personal and academic factors influencing grades during this pandemic, Scholars in the high school program will be held harmless for not meeting eligibility requirements.  This means we will NOT terminate any student during this period but work holistically with them to restore their academic resume.
  • College – Scholars in our college program will still be required to be enrolled full-time during the pandemic to receive funding, but we will honor a “pass” or “credit” in the event a student does not receive a letter grade.  However, students must still be passing at least 50% of their classes.
